What is #IWD 2021? 💜

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This year's theme is for us all to #ChooseToChallenge! 🗣

Our Event 🎉 🎮

In the spirit of raising awareness about women's equality, Hexagon UX Boston with UXPA Boston are proud to announce our 'Blasting Away Stereotypes Game Night!' Tonight we will be engaging the design and tech community with an incredible battle for wit, creativity, and perseverance!

We will be hosting a series of Doodle games, with the theme "things women have invented" to find 5 (five) total winners at the end of our game night!

The winners will be receiving a physical copy of 'A Web for Everyone' by Sarah Horton, Whitney Quesenbery along with some lovely Hexagon UX stickers!

"Isn't this a remote event" Don't worry! We will connect with our winners to ensure these books are mailed safely to their homes.

Not a woman? Allies are welcome! Below are some expectations we have for our allies coming into our spaces. 👋

▪️ First, listen! Listening in a way that inspires trust and respect is a fundamental relationship promise you must make, and then keep, with women who invite you to participate around equity.

▪️ Respect the space. Women’s conferences and ERGs are often one outgrowth of experiences of exclusion, marginalization, and discrimination. Tread respectfully into these spaces.

▪️ Remember, it’s not about you. Refrain from taking center stage, speaking for women, or mansplaining how women should approach gender equity efforts.

▪️ Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Learning about the challenges of women may produce feelings of self-shame/self-blame that cause anxiety. The solution is more interaction and learning, not less.

▪️ And last but not least, engage in supportive partnerships with all the women you work with and know. Share your insights with others and ensure we are growing and supporting one another, always.
