Who's Afraid of the Big Bad AI? Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to humans?

It kinda looks like computers are getting smarter than people*. Computers are indeed getting better at solving "hard" problems. The implications are huge and maybe scary.** We'll discuss what is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? What is Human Intelligence? Why are we humans not machines, have nothing to fear from and everything to look forward to with this new-fangled AI that's popping up everywhere. This will be a very entertaining learning opportunity. * Watson beat Ken Jennings on Jeopardy. AlphaGo beat Go master Lee Se-dol four games out of five. ** Remember the movie The Terminator? About the speaker Lionel Goulet Lionel is both a computer nerd and a bible nerd. That combination is important when it comes to talking about Artificial Intelligence. He graduated MIT a looong time ago, does in-home and small-business IT support, and likes to be the center of attention. In order to get the attention he craves\, he puts together interesting talks on things he knows about. His greatest accomplishment is his 30-year marriage to his wife Susan, and his two almost-grown-now sons. IMPORTANT: You need to have a (free) parking permit and directions. These are located online (print yours) at We'll start the meeting at approximately 7pm; social hour and munchies start at about 6:30pm. There'll be time for Q&A, and meeting will end by 9pm. Please let me know if you plan to come or even if you may come so we can have enough space and munchies. If you'd like to bring some munchies to contribute, that would be a big help. Thanks!
