Join Prescribe Design, the Service Design Network, and the design team at Foundation Medicine for a stimulating night of lightning talks and discussions about how co-designing with key stakeholders can lead to a better healthcare experience.

Learn about case studies, methodologies, and stakeholder engagement from leaders in product design, service design, and interior design.

Speakers & Panelists:

The Clinic of the Future, Memorial Hermann Medical Group

Amanda Levesque, Strategist at LENS Strategy. Amanda is a designer and strategist who works at the intersection of people, process, and place. She helps organizations ask aspirational questions about the future of their work, then meet and even exceed those expectations using design thinking, data-driven simulation, and hands-on implementation. To date, Amanda has worked with forward-thinking organizations across the healthcare, higher education, construction, and financial industries. As a frequent design instructor at MIT, she strives to empower clients by helping them develop stronger in-house problem-solving skills as a natural outcome of every project—from using resources more creatively to building empathy-fueled customer and staff experiences.

Uma Ramanathan, Principal at Shepley Bulfinch. Uma specializes in programming, planning, and conceptualizing healthcare facility needs addressing complex issues in healthcare operations. She works with senior leadership, faculty, clinicians, staff and patients to achieve innovation at all levels. As the firm’s leader in pediatric healthcare, her grasp of the rigorous demands of medical staff has been invaluable to her clients, as is her ability to work effectively with high-level medical faculty and administrators to build consensus among diverse viewpoints. A passionate teacher and mentor, she has been a long-time guest lecturer at the Boston University, School of Public Health. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Michigan, College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Project Joy: Redesigning the Pregnancy Experience

Eva M. Luo, MD, MBA is an obstetrics and gynecology resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Her research interests include innovations in value-based care delivery both domestically and internationally, primarily models that arise from the entrepreneurship space and their impact on overall policy. Her primary areas of focus are prenatal care, incorporation of digital health to improve women’s health care delivery, and prenatal diagnostics.

Joanna Luo is an experience designer and strategist at EPAM Continuum in Boston with a background in architecture. She enjoys the entire problem-solving process, starting with the investigation of complex systems to the implementation of holistic visionary experiences. Since joining Continuum, she has designed and implemented interactive experiences internationally and domestically, in food & beverage, retail, financial services, healthcare, higher education, and culture.

Foundation Medicine

Asad Basir, Product Manager at Foundation Medicine. Asad is a product leader who is passionate about building and launching innovative products in the healthcare marketplace. With over a decade of experience in the medical devices and healthcare IT industries, he worked to develop multiple products from the ground up. He has been entrenched in every step from assessing market opportunities, to understanding unmet needs and developing compelling business models, to designing successful products and services. Asad has experience working for both fortune 500 and startup companies, and has worked in research, engineering, and product management roles.

Suzanne Velez, Manager, Design Research & Strategy at Foundation Medicine. With over a decade working at the intersection of social science and design, Suzanne has focused on helping teams frame problems from a human-centered perspective, to thoughtfully design and deliver a broad spectrum of experiences. From roots in strategic facility planning and environment-behavior research, to the design of physical and digital products and services, she strives to make sense of complexity and uncover critical nuances in the needs, behaviors, and attitudes of those interacting with designed things. Suzanne is now fortunate to manage a highly-skilled team of researchers and strategists who are relentless in their drive to create seamless experiences that impact outcomes for people with cancer. At Foundation Medicine, the team seeks to understand the daily work of oncology care teams so they can design products and services that integrate into their practices and enhance clinical decision-making at the point of care.
