Revolutionizing Biotech & Healthcare with Machine Learning

Please register via this link to save your spot (we will use eventbrite for registration instead of meetup): Ever wondered how data science and machine learning are revolutionizing biotech and healthcare, from drug discovery and agriculture to women's health and prenatal diagnostics? Join us on Oct 8th at Illumina's Foster City campus to find out! Daphne Koller (Insitro), Diane Wu (Trace Genomics), Hana Janebdar (Juno Bio), and Raheleh Salari (Natera) will be sharing their stories on how they're combining their expertise in genomics and machine learning to make the world a better place. The event will be sponsored by the Illumina Accelerator. Food and drinks will be served. Agenda: 6:00 pm - Arrival and networking6:45 pm - Welcome by ILMN and WiMLDS7:00 pm - Keynote from Daphne Koller (Insitro)7:20 pm - Panel- Daphne Koller (Insitro)- Diane Wu (Trace Genomics)- Hana Janebdar (Juno Bio)- Raheleh Salari (Natera)- Moderator: Sofia Panagiotopoulou (Illumina)8:00 pm - networking9:00 pm - departure Speaker bios: Daphne Koller is CEO and Founder of insitro, a company applying machine learning to drug development. Daphne was a Computer Science Professor at Stanford, co-founder and co-CEO of Coursera, and Chief Computing Officer of Calico. Daphne was one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people and is a MacArthur Fellow, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the International Society of Computational Biology. Dr. Diane Wu is the co-founder and CEO of Trace Genomics. Trace Genomics combines the latest advancements in genomics, machine learning, and agronomy to help farmers maximize the value of every acre and harnessing our living soil to feed the world. Prior to cofounding Trace Genomics, Diane received her PhD in Genetics at age 25 from Stanford University. She also worked as a data scientist at Palantir Technologies and deployed deep learning technology as part of the early team at MetaMind (later acquired by Salesforce). Diane’s mission is to digitalize the biological world and leverage artificial intelligence to uncover insights that transform health and wellness. Hana Janebdar is the founder and CEO of Juno Bio, a company providing insights into the vaginal microbiome and its effects on women's health. Hana has built several ventures in the synthetic biology and microbiome space. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Imperial College London and a Masters in Biochemical Engineering from UCL. Raheleh Salari is the Director of Bioinformatics at Natera, where she leads a team working on ctDNA-based tests for monitoring cancer. She holds a PhD in Computer Science. She gained her experience in cancer data analysis during her work as research fellow at NIH and the Batzoglou Lab at Stanford. Sofia Panagiotopoulou is a Sr Staff AI Engineer at Illumina, where she develops deep learning models to predict the effects of genetic variation on disease. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University, where she used machine learning to study the mechanisms that turn genes on or off. After her PhD she was one of the first employees at 10X Genomics, where she developed algorithms to analyze novel genomic assays. Transportation: We have a limited number of $10 Uber vouchers that can be used at the day of the event. Please contact Sofia Panagiotopoulou ( to claim yours! Those interested in carpooling from BART, Caltrain or San Francisco (or anywhere else), feel free to get in touch with each other by posting a comment below saying you're looking for or can offer a ride (and from where).
