Sewing Machine Training Pt. 1

Want to learn how to sew?Learn how to use a new machine?Want to use the machines at Noisebridge for your projects? Learn how to use home sewing machines such as ours safely and effectively! We ask everyone who sews at Noisebridge to take this class, in which we'll cover both basic sewing machine usage and important practices to keep our machines in good working order. This is part 1, which covers how to excellently use our sewing machines and includes a simple test project. It is the prerequisite for part 2, two weeks later. At the end of part 2, you will have made a large cotton tote bag, which will be yours to keep. Completing both classes is required for you to be considered a trusted sewing-machine user at Noisebridge. It's free, but donations are gladly accepted for sewing area upkeep, as always. A note about our space:Noisebridge has an incredible sewing area with 5 sewing machines, a giant table, dress form, ironing board and many sewing amenities. We have a great selection of donated fabric, thread, and other notions that you can draw from. Here's our website, with more information about our space: You can do projects entirely from the donated fabrics we have on hand, but it's a grab-bag. If you want something specific, it's best to bring your own. PS If you need materials for a sewing project, we are near a great fabric store: Fabric Outlet. It closes at 7pm exactly, so be sure to go before the meetup to get whatever you need! PPS. We accept donations of perfectly working home machines. If you have any leads on one, please tell us.
